During last night’s Bulls-Thunder matchup we got some fireworks late in the third quarter. From the footage below you can easily see what went down with Russ and Kris Dunn.
Russ always seems to get under other player’s skin and this was another instance of that. He did it to Jamal Murray literally 4 days ago and he’s always been one to stir the pot.
While watching Russ shove somebody for absolutely no reason is always cool, the real winner of this whole exchange last night was none other than Robin Lopez. First off, he comes in from the woodwork and gets all up in Jerami Grant’s space, and then hell broke loose. There are like six dudes holding on for dear life as they try and hold him back. Look at him aggressively pointing and tell me that isn’t the scariest thing of all time. That’s a very grizzled, very angry individual and I would definitely need new pants if I saw him pointing at me in such a rage.
The best view of this whole video comes from more of a skyview and you get a good look at what went down by the bench with Grant/Lopez.
JIM BOYLEN IS OUT HERE! His face as he desperately tries to drag Grant out of the scrum tells me one thing, RoLo was about to clobber this man.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Lopez in a little confrontation (and angrily point) as we got this gem two years ago.
In NBA skirmishes nowadays you rarely see any punches thrown as it usually just ends up being a lame shoving match. Lopez on the other hand would rather toss some haymakers than a few shoves and I am here for that. It seems like Lopez rots away in Chicago (like most players for the Bulls do) and only pops up in the news when we see him in a little donnybrook. He’s like their enforcer and when something gets out of hand you can expect Lopez to be posted on the front lines. It also makes me wonder if a playoff team would want this kind of guy on their team. While you can definitely make a point that fighting and getting thrown out is bad, if I was another team in search for another body off the bench, I’d give Lopez a look. Sticks up for his teammates, he’s tough, and he’s been around the block a few times.
However you want to slice it, Lopez is entertaining and he’s proved this to us time and time again. If you don’t believe me, look at this video of a Robin Lopez ejection dubbed to Training Day and tell me it doesn’t make you laugh.
It’s so perfect it’s almost unbelievable that wasn’t the actual scene from Training Day. As I was perusing the world wide web for more Lopez fodder, I was reminded that his thing is throwing around mascots like ragdolls. Every arena he comes into, Lopez has at least a few qualms with your mascot.
How can you not love someone who produces this much content and looks like this?
I rest my case.
